A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux

In between Gensokyo is a mix between a casual gardening game and a visual novel where you plant flowers and gift them to Touhou girls so that they can date each other. This game is meant to be a short and relaxing experience. This is a Touhou Project fangame made for the submission of the Touhou Pride Jam 2. It is made in 2 weeks so there is not a lot to it and something that are rushed.

Story:

There is a place that is separated from time, and Gensokyo it self, a garden that grows the finest flowers that can magically foster and cure any mental corruption, and can even mend even the most broken relationship between one another regarding their preferences. However this magical place is only opened from it’s inter-dimensional gate once a year. People would go there and grab some of those sacred flowers when they had the chance. But the sacred flowers need the finest care, it is said that a gardener is chosen from another realm every year to tend them and service those who came for the flowers. Every year the chosen gardener are tasked to tend this place and the visitors who came for the flowers as long as the garden opens. That place is what people called “The Garden in Between Gensokyo”.

This is the story of not just any gardener. This year, the chosen gardener is you.

Gameplay:

This is a relaxing and a play-at-your-own-pace game so there is no stress and no time pressure within the gameplay. In this game You basically plant flowers, sell them , decorate the garden until you are able to plant and gift the requested flowers while you enjoy the relaxing music atmosphere. As you provide the girls with the requested flowers you get to see the cute little story of 2 Touhou love birds unfold.

Currently known issues:

  • This game has no pause menu and the only way to quit the game in the garden scene is Atl + F4
  • There are some typos and grammatical errors
  • the flower hit box is not up to size
  • Planting a lot of flowers (somewhere above 50) can cause the game to have frame rate issues
  • Some invalid action messages are not showed correctly and not clear enough
  • The tutorial is mostly just a huge text dump, I have made a How_To_Play.txt for references.
  • Some sound effects are loud
  • you can't remove ground tiles

So basically give flowers to someone, for example Reimu, so they can give said flower to Marisa or Sanae. Great idea!

The gameplay, visuals, and music were downright soothing. :)

The dump of instructions all at once is confusing especially without being able to see the UI that it is referring to.

Yeah, that tutorial is rushed. I have actually added a How_To_Play.txt to compensate that but it is still bad design,  and I should consider adding some more GUI elements fro some controls. Anyways, thanks for enjoying the game.
